Oak Ridge visit

Yaya was in Tennessee for her class reunion recently, so we thought it would be a great time to meet her there and visit with our family.  When we left Friday afternoon, we grabbed dinner on the road (and a shake, of course.)  Once we arrived in Oak Ridge, we went to Precious Aunt Nancy's house for a quick visit.  Afterwards at the hotel we got a hot bath, ate cookies, watched cartoons then got a good night's sleep.

Traveling multi-tasker
Road trip shakes just taste better!
Watching Cars on the way to East TN
Saturday morning we woke up, watched some cartoons with Yaya and got ready for the day.  We met Precious Aunt Nancy and Sweet Aunt Janie at IHOP for some pancakes, the Captain's favorite!  They cracked up watching him entertain them with his counting & singing.  Once we were all full from breakfast, Yaya, Cason & Mommy took a quick trip to Pigeon Forge for some fun!

Watching Little Einsteins with Yaya
Yaya, what are we riding first?!!
On the merry-go-round giraffe
Can I ride the airplane now?
Too loud!!
Riding the Choo-choo train
Swings! Mommy I want the swings!!
Love how he keeps looking over his shoulder at the girl behind him, like she's gonna catch him!!
Twirly carts go round and around and round
Cason LOVED these!!
After a quick trip to Pigeon Forge, we went to McDonald's for lunch then headed back to Oak Ridge.  Yaya had to get ready for her reunion and Mommy & Cason were driving back to Hendersonville.

One tired little boy after all the fun rides!
On the ride home to H'vegas, the Captain was watching Cars again.
He just loves Lightnin' Keen!

Such a fun trip! We will have to do that again very soon!

Splash!!

It's official!
We have a swimmer!
Cason has been loving going swimming lately.  Walking to the pool the other day, he grabbed his "swimmie" and as soon as we arrived, he said "Daddy, you do it!" (Meaning clip his swimmie in the back after he slipped it on).  Once he had it on, he confidently jumped into the pool to Daddy and never looked back!  So glad he's loving the water!!

Booger picker

There really is no way around it.
Kids pick their noses!
It's a fact.

What we didn't know is that kids can actually get stuff and spread it just by picking their noses.  For instance, have you heard of Impetigo? Yeah, until Cason, we hadn't either.  Here's our story.

Cason's face had been breaking out off and on throughout the late spring and early summer.  We just attributed it to warmer weather, boys getting dirty and possibly baby/childhood acne.  "Just keep him bathed and clean and it will go away on it's own" is what we thought.

(a few examples of Cason's breakouts)

Finally one day at Momma G's, Cason's "acne" spread from 1 bump to about 6 bumps within hours!  When we picked him up that afternoon, Momma G was worried it might be chicken pox but wasn't really sure.  We immediately went to the after hours clinic at Hendersonville Pediatrics.  After seeing Cason for maybe 2 minutes, the doctor ruled out chicken pox (amen!) and strep (whew!) and diagnosed him with Impetigo.

On our way to the doctor's office

According to the doctor, Cason would pick his nose and develop a sore.  Infection would set in and then as he continued to pick, it would continue to open sores and spread.  Gross, right?... he was treated with some oral antibiotics and a topical medicine to treat the infection inside and out.  That was great news to this worried Mommy & Daddy!
In other words, he has the Booger Picker disease.

So....
Kids pick their noses,
but this is a great reason to make them try and stop!
Cason was out of school for a few days and chilled at home until his sores cleared up.

Happy, health boy again!

Hair all gone!

We have to rewind a little bit.
At the beginning of the summer it was so hot here.
I mean REALLY hot!
Really REALLY hot!
Like Africa hot!
Habanero hot!
Anyway, you get the picture.

We decided it just might be time to give Cason a "big boy haircut" (which actually means a buzz cut) and it would be so much cooler for him this time of the year.  His hair is so thick, and when the weather is this warm, he sweats like he's a man working out.  So honestly, it was time to shear.

He wasn't too sure about it at first, but then after 2 suckers and a popsicle, he was on board!
Yes it was messy and icky.
Mommy had a steady hand but a hard time seeing how her baby boy somehow morphed into this man-child just by cutting his hair.

Cason really seemed to like it though and said afterwards, rubbing his head, so matter-of-factly
"Hair all gone!"

Post-trip veg-out

There is nothing better after a nice vacation than to have a few days at home to just relax.

Big, homemade breakfast

Pool time (with snacks, of course!)
Ballfield fun with Daddy
(at Big Bubba's Bash for Make-a-Wish)
And, well, this was too cute not to share!

These days just make you sit back and say "Ahhhhhh!"
